该片在中国大陆上映20天票房就已过亿，并在2014年第64届柏林电影节获得最佳影片——金熊奖，主演廖凡也赢得了最佳男主角奖——银熊奖。

Directed by Diao Yinan, Black Coal, Thin Ice is a film noir, a genre with an distinctive American twang, that tells a crime story set in north-eastern China. A creative hybrid as such adds new meaning and motivation to the paling art of movie making, and evokes deep contemplation among its viewers with its straightforward exposure of social issues.

The film’s box office crossed the 100 million RMB mark a mere 20 days after its premier in the Chinese mainland, and won the 2014 Golden Bear Award for Best Film at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. Its male lead, Liao Fan, also took home the Silver Bear Award for Best Actor.
