The film revolves around a fictional movie: during a very special period in China’s history, a prisoner escapes and treks across a desert to make it to a movie’s premier; meanwhile, a girl has stolen a copy of a tape. All the narrative takes place between stealing and protecting the copy, where on one end is a special audience who would risk his life just to catch a movie, and on the other end is a girl who wants to steal a copy for reasons unknown.
