王家卫导演的《一代宗师》是中国电影亚类型当中的一部，也是近年来中国电影的一个潮流。影片并不是围绕着一个叶问展开的故事，而是一个大时代变迁中消失的武林，经由武侠电影让我们看到一代人的历史选择，历史操守和群像，共同构成了一个大时代的剪影和大时代的群像。

该片先后获得亚洲电影大奖最佳影片、香港电影金像奖最佳影片、中国金鸡百花电影节最佳影片等奖项。

Directed by Wang Jiawei, The Grandmaster falls under a sub category of Chinese films, and is an example of the trend in Chinese movies in recent years. The film does not revolve around the story of Ip Man alone, rather, it sheds light on the disappearing Wulin, or world of material arts in the much larger backdrop of a changing era. Through the fictional film, we see the historical choices that a generation of people must make, the ideals that they stick by, and the portrait of them as a whole. These together constitutes an epitome and group profile of an era.

Recognized for its excellence, this film has won many awards, such as Best Film in the Asian Film Awards, Hong Kong Film Awards and China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival.
