影片根据科幻作家刘慈欣同名小说改编，因其在中国电影工业史、产业史和文化史上的标志性地位，电影上映的2019年被标记为中国科幻电影元年。该片获得第32届中国电影金鸡奖、第32届东京国际电影节金鹤奖最佳作品，累计票房突破45亿人民币。

With the sun dying out and the Earth’s very survival threatened, humanity put its last hope in the Wandering Earth project, which is essentially to build tens of thousands of thrusters to push the Earth away from the solar system and wander the cosmos in search of another suitable star system. Adapted from the same name novel by Chinese Sci-fi writer, Liu Cixin, this film is a monument in the history of China’s movie and cultural industry. The year of its premier, 2019, was also deemed as the epoch of Chinese sci-fi movies. The Wandering Earth won two of the 32nd Golden Rooster Awards, the Golden Crane Award at the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival, and harvested more than 4.5 billion RMB in total box office.
